This won't make much sense at the moment. It's an answer to an online IQ test/puzzle thing my mum sent me. I'll post the quiz up later, and link back to this solution...

The test I am looking at has 2 boys and 2 girls as well as the mom, dad, policeman and thief. can you figure that one out? it is at the following URL

To the latest anonymous poster - while that's not the link I gave, it is the same puzzle. There are two boys and two girls, although I don't differentiate them in the solution because it doesn't matter which is which.

You posted the wrong answers. I tried. I had to figure it out on my own during the middle. The police man goes with daughter and the criminal comes back with the police man last because the criminal is allowed alone. My friend says it hurts his brain. It isn't correct is what I'm tryin to say.

Lauren, it is right, so I'm not sure you followed correctly. The policeman does go with one of the daughters (move 15) and the thief last (17).

Hey! help! I think that something wrong is happening between step 13 and 14, because, you have the parents, two boys and a girl in the other side, but how can you go back to pick up the other girl?

Yes, at step 13 you have both parents on the other side. But then step 14 is the policeman goes back (with the thief) to pick up the remaining girl. Where's the problem?
The problem is that in step 13 you have the mom and girl in the other side and you can´t take the boat to start because it can´t travel alone and you can´t leave the kids and that stuff
The boat doesn't have to travel back alone. Both parents remain on the far side (with the two boys and one girl) and the *policeman* takes the boat back for the remaining girl.

Yes, the directions do work. Now I'm trying to figure out how I should have worked this out... it seems like the key was to think about moving the raft, not moving the people. But I don't know if I would've really solved it then...
